The Play

This folktale is about the Xhosa land of ancient times, a kingdom that was cursed because of its stubborn King. Due to his obstinacy, the King, going against the advice of his councilors, refused to choose a suitable successor. This was a decision that resulted in the division of his nation. The new King took over power and ruled the silent nation, over which a pall of gloom descended. When this King’s reign was about to come to an end, the nation took a stand to end the curse by dismissing the new successor and choosing a suitable King who would reign over them, and establish the kind of rule their ancestors would have wanted.
