The Play

Ten years after entering the Jannat Mahal as Akbar's bride, Zulekha stands benumbed at his funeral. When Akbar's brother Munir decides to claim her as his wife, Zulekha's silence is taken as acquiescence. Will life under this new patriarch be any different for her? Munir is a man of liberal ideas and compels his wife to participate in his experiments in women's empowerment. But the more things change, the more, Zulekha realizes, they remain the same. Trapped in her palatial prison, there is nothing left for her to do but to laugh - a laughter that rocks the very pillars of Jannat Mahal.
