The Play
Jaswandi presents a cat’s eye view of humans. Sonia is married to a rich industrialist for whom she is just a proud possession. He has no time for her, but keeps showering her with costly gifts. Her lonely hours drag on. One day Sonia brings home two stray tom cats and showers them with affection. The cats, Manya and Banya, do not have a very good opinion of human beings, and find the two scheming characters, Rangabai, the domestic and Tanpure, the driver, especially obnoxious. Time goes by and Udayan, a young artist, comes to Mumbai in connection with a new job and enters Sonia’s life. An intense affair between the two develops. The cats look on concerned but helpless as matters hurtle to an unexpected climax.
