The Play
Rabindranath Tagore, the Bengali mystic, poet, visual artist, playwright, novelist and composer, whose works reshaped Bengali literature and music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, is known for the beauty and lyricism of his works and renditions. The novels, short stories, songs, dance-dramas, essays and verses of this Bard of Bengal, often exhibited rhythmic lyricism, colloquial language, meditative naturalism, and philosophical contemplation. They received worldwide acclaim and continue to touch the hears of people even today.
This performance explores Tagore's perspectives on Art, Love, Nature, Life & Death by linking his prose writing with his poetry, and presented in the form of Rabindra Sangeet. The poems have been selected from collections like Geetanjali, Balaka, Kheya, Shishu and Nevaidya.
Since Tagore has also been widely translated into several languages of which Marathi is one, the performance uses poetry taken from free translations and trans-creations, while keeping the original compositions intact in the singing.
