The Play

A play aimed at sensitizing society towards physically challenged citizens, Kino Kao deals with the world of dwarves. It lays bare the biases, prejudices, double standards and narrow-mindedness our society has towards dwarves, and reveals the discrimination between so-called normal people and the physically challenged. On the one hand, even as many of us are on a globalization drive of fast-track modernization, on the other hand some differently enabled people find it very difficult to create their own dignified space in our society. Besides verbal taunts and comments about their physical structure, dwarves face obstacles and apathy in the majority of their dealings with other members of our society. Highlighting the pain, suffering, complexities and complications in their lives, Kino Kao also draws our attention towards their realities, dreams, aspirations and desires. The play is bold in its efforts to initiate a re-thinking of our attitudes, approaches, perspectives, viewpoints, and interactions vis-à-vis these members of our society.
