The Play
Raja Lear presents an adapted version of the original Shakespearean tragedy King Lear. Lear, aged King of Britain, plans to divide his kingdom between his three daughters. The one who expresses her love for him most eloquently is supposed to receive the best portion of his kingdom. Lear disowns his daughter Cordelia after she, unlike her wicked sisters Goneril and Regan, fails to flatter him. Cordelia is married to King of France and is banished from her father's kingdom. Lear soon realizes his mistakes after he discovers that Goneril and Regan have begun conspiring to subvert his authority. He leaves the palace in a fit of rage and descends into madness while wandering through the countryside during a thunderstorm. Cordelia and France invade Britain to avenge the old King who has been betrayed by his daughters. Cordelia is killed when she comes to save her father. France kills Goneril and Regan in a fit of fury. And finally, Lear dies heartbroken, grieving for his child Cordelia.
