The Play

The play, which is an attempt to harmonize the principles of acrobatics, martial arts, village and folk art forms, dance and music in a coherent and entertaining narrative, revolves around the story of Sawaniya, whose husband Bedhang Prasad goes missing. She goes to King Atkalpunji to ask him for help, and he orders his soldiers to search for him. In the meantime it turns out that Bedhang Prasad has lost his memory and now calls himself Baba Ghotalu. He is also in love with the court dancer, Phaguniya, a secret he shares with his two sidekicks, Ujaru-Bigaru. Finally Baba Ghotalu, after being beaten up by Sawaniya’s father, regains his memory and is faced by Sawaniya, who in turn is disguised as Phaguniya. Finally, in the midst of all this chaos, Hasantu, the court jester intervenes, sorts out the confusion and helps everything fall into place. The play makes an attempt to accentuate underlying emotions through Music, which also plays the role of a sutradhar.
