The Play

Peer Gynt, about to die, requests God for a second chance to re-do his life. Meanwhile, the Devil also lays claim to Peer’s heart, as such a heart is his own creation, not God’s. Curious to see a better version of Peer’s life, God grants him a second chance, Peer grabs his heart and runs away, with both God and the Devil following. Herein begins the game, a game between God, the Devil and Peer Gynt.
Thus starts/re-starts Peer’s journey through the follies of his life, until he finally finds himself in a madhouse where he is ‘enthroned’ as the Emperor, only to preside over death and destruction.
This spatially experimental production is very physical and has a strong, visually narrative, ritualistic structure. It is a contemporary structure, maintaining the absurdity and poetry of the original text. The story has been told through puppets, moving objects, imaginative costumes, ritualistic actions accompanied by innovative Indian fusion music.
