The Play

This performance script is improvised from an old tale “Stone in the Road,” and is a satire on the freebie culture of Tamil Nadu politics. A man named Pongo arrives at the town hall in the Land of Pongo to address people with his electoral manifesto. He promises that if he wins the election he will give lots of freebies to everyone. Based on these promises he wins the election and becomes the Leader of Pongo. As a result of fulfilling his promises he gets lots of contracts. After a year passes the governor discovers the leader’s strategy and the deceit with which he hadbeen carrying out his plans. When he is faced with the threat of exposure, Pongo requests him to give him a chance to prove the authenticity of his schemes and the truth of Pongo Land. In order to do this he decides to conduct the ‘Stone experiment.’ The play traces the story as the plot progresses.
