The Play

A small village, somewhere in the valley, wakes up to a new reality that jolts its residents to the core. A message from the king questions their beliefs and shatters their illusions yet again, but the fear of punishment stops them from raising a cry. In the midst of this, an old man decides to protest, even though he is aware of the fact that this may lead to his death. This the basic plot that the play develops. The play unfolds in a bygone era gone where common people were too afraid to demand justice from the all powerful rulers. The king’s decree angers, shocks and terrifies his, yet despite their sense of outrage they find themselves unable to act against and resist the unfairness. Wattepaed (footprints) tries to raise questions about the rights of common people and the duty of the state to preserve the dignity and honour of its citizens.
